Painting and Perception
E.T.M. Romasanta is a contemporary mixed-media artist working with acrylic, spray paint, ink and oil. Her artistic practice combines figurative portraits with abstract spaces, fragments, lines and symbolic elements. Each work emerges from a tension between conceptual structure and intuitive decision-making.
The works explore inner experience in relation to external influences: states of perception, emotional resonance, integration and fragmentation. Figures often appear in floating, unstable spatial structures, pointing to states of transition rather than fixed identities.
Origin of the Work
The paintings can be understood as reflective spaces in which viewers may encounter something of themselves.
The autobiographical origin of this work is documented in the book Beyond the Body - The Radiance of the Soul.
The tunnel experience described there profoundly changed my perception of identity and reality and led to a shift in consciousness.
What followed was a long process of remembering and finding my way back to myself.
Since then, I understand painting not as representation, but as a space in which perception shifts and becomes visible. From this inner process, an independent visual language emerged.

Her work moves between figuration and abstraction, combining portraits with fragmented, symbolic spaces. The focus lies on inner experience, states of perception, and transformation, opening resonant spaces where meaning remains fluid.

Working Process
Portraits emerge through a process in which perception gradually takes form. Lines, fragments, and fields of color intersect, dissolve, and reorganize. The image does not begin with a fixed idea, but unfolds through a movement between placing and responding.
Each process remains open until the image begins to carry itself. In that moment, a form appears that no longer feels constructed, but simply present.
The use of different materials is not driven by effect, but allows varying states to become visible. Control and openness are not opposites, but part of the same process. The work develops in ongoing series that grow from an inner impulse and condense across multiple paintings.
Current and past presentations of my work are documented on the Exhibitions page.

E.T.M. Romasanta
born in Vienna in 1970, lives and works in Lower Austria. Her artistic practice unfolds through ongoing series that explore perception, inner experience and the relationship between figure and space.

The works explore inner experience in relation to external influences, addressing states of perception, emotional resonance, integration, and fragmentation. Figures often appear within floating, unstable spatial configurations, pointing to transitional states rather than fixed identities.
The visual language moves between figuration and abstraction. Portraits are not conceived as representations but as spaces of encounter—layered, interrupted, and reassembled through texture, gesture, and graphic interventions. The use of materials consciously generates tension between control and openness.
Recurring themes include connection and separation, movement, tension fields, and the relationship between human presence and surrounding space. Rather than offering narrative structures, the works open interpretative spaces in which meaning can be experienced without being fixed.
The artistic practice unfolds in series, each forming a focused inquiry into particular states or questions.
Within this context, the works can be understood as reflective spaces. The viewer may encounter something of themselves within these spaces — something that invites dialogue and resonance. E. T. M. Romasanta lives and works in Austria and presents her work in an international context.

My work investigates states of perception and inner experience, opening a space for layered contemplation.
Each work marks a moment of awareness.
I paint to translate inner states into visual form,
what moves between light and shadow.
Art, for me, is a process of integration.
A quiet approach toward what takes shape within.
